The latest Radial version features separate XLR and ¼' TRS input connectors, variable output. It features a 100 passive design with Johns original custom wound Made in the USA transformer and circuit. The cheap transformer is used solely as an inductor. The Radial Reamp JCR is the latest version of the original Reamp that was designed and patented by John Cuniberti. Perfect for getting dry tracks (guitar, bass, keys) into. It provides neither isolation nor unbalancing. The Fredenstein ramDI Reamp Box is an audiophile DI and streamlined re-amping system in a single box. Here is a third one : not exactly intended for reamping, but similarily designed to looks like a guitar to the next circuit.
#Cheap reamp box series
The 1M series resistor looks overkill to me, it looses again 3dB combined with the input impedance of the amp. For the majority of my purposes the cheap-o transformers are fine 90 of the time.
but that's the heart of the thing and basically the 'meat' of any reamp box. One could mix both designs, for example adding the 10k series pot for "impedance" control instead of a fixed resistor. Its about 75 per transformer if you're buying one or two at a time.

#Cheap reamp box professional
I gess it's good for balanced +6dBu professional line-out level, not for unbalanced -10dBu semi-pro line-out. Solo a snare drum track, and send it out of your interface to a reamp box. The way I understand it is you need the Reamp box to take the lower impedance line-out signal from your interface and convert it to a high-impedance signal that the front of your amp expects.
It's a kind of anti-preamp : basically, you want some attenuation (from line level to typical guitar level) and an inductive impedance to simulate the loading of the guitar pickups.īoth designs you're linking at also take care of isolating and un-balancing the signal, but you might not need that depending on your recording gear.
